Adverb Placement in Sentences
Adverbs commonly appear in three positions: beginning, middle, and end of a sentence.
Adverb at the Beginning
Used for emphasis, especially in formal or narrative writing.
- Suddenly, the lights went out.
- Unfortunately, we missed the last train.
Adverb in the Middle
The middle position is usually:
- Subject + Adverb + Main Verb (e.g., She always drinks coffee in the morning)
- Auxiliary Verb + Adverb + Main Verb (e.g., He has already finished his work.)
Adverb at the End
The most common position, especially for adverbs of manner, place, and time.
- She spoke carefully.
- They met yesterday.
- He ran quickly to catch the bus.
How to Form Adverbs
